Yoga Wear Manufacturer in China: Custom Sets, Leggings & Bras

Oct 12, 202611 min readBy Essty Garment

Activewear is one of the few apparel categories where China still owns the full supply chain — fibre, warp-knit fabric, dye house, cut-and-sew and finishing all sit within a few hours of Guangzhou. That is why a yoga wear manufacturer in China can turn a tech pack into a re-orderable, squat-proof, private-label line faster and cheaper than almost anywhere else. This guide walks the real product range, fabrics, opacity testing and order flow we run for brands building custom yoga sets, leggings and sports bras — the same ranges shown in our yoga & activewear collection.

What a Full Yoga Wear Line Actually Covers

Most new brands picture "leggings" and stop. A sellable activewear catalogue is three coordinated families, and the factory should handle all of them so the colour story stays consistent across the drop:

CategoryCore stylesWhy it matters
Yoga setsSports bra + legging, crop top + bike shortHighest basket; the coordinated look drives repeat purchase
LeggingsHigh-waist, 7/8, butt-lift, pocketThe volume anchor of every activewear SKU mix
Sports brasLight / medium / high support, padded & wire-freeConverts the set into a full outfit; sizing is the make-or-break detail

When the legging, bra and short share the same dyed lot, re-orders match the first run — which is exactly what protects a small brand's reputation after the first Instagram post. Our two-piece set manufacturing line uses the same lock-the-pattern discipline for coordinated women's wear generally.

Fabric: Nylon-Spandex Is the Baseline

Premium yoga wear is almost always a nylon-spandex blend, not polyester. The hand feel, the "second skin" stretch and the way it recovers after a deep squat all come from that ratio. GSM (grams per square metre) sets the weight class:

BlendGSM rangeBest forFeel
78% nylon / 22% spandex200–220Everyday leggings, shortsSoft, moderate compression
80% nylon / 20% spandex230–260Butt-lift, sculpting leggingsFirmer, more hold
90% nylon / 10% spandex180–200Light sports bras, layeringBreathable, lighter support

A heavier GSM is not automatically "better" — a 260 GSM legging that is too thick will bubble at the knee for a petite buyer. Match the weight to the support level you are promising, not to the highest number on the spec sheet.

Ask for the fabric's four-way stretch and recovery test, not just the GSM. A legging can read 240 GSM and still go sheer at the squat if the spandex recovery is poor. Recovery rate (how fast it snaps back after 50% stretch) is the number that actually predicts squat-proof performance — our fabric consumption guide explains how that weight also drives your unit cost.

Squat-Proof: Test Before You Bulk

"Squat-proof" is the single most returned claim in activewear, and the easiest to verify before you pay for 500 units. We run a simple opacity check on every new colour: stretch the fabric to 50% over a dark surface under bright light, and confirm no show-through at the gusset and knee. If a colour fails, it does not ship — full stop.

Do not let a supplier "fix" sheerness with a cheap lining you did not spec. A poorly placed crotch liner changes the drape and adds a visible seam line. The right fix is a higher spandex ratio or a different dye lot in the shell fabric. Agree the shell composition in writing before bulk, and the test result is the buyer's proof — not a promise buried in a chat message.

MOQ, Lead Time & FOB

Yoga wear bends to the same low-MOQ logic as the rest of our catalogue. The sweet spot for a test drop is small enough to prove a style and fast enough to restock before the trend passes:

ParameterStandardNote
MOQ100 pcs per style / colourOne bra + one legging counts as two styles
Lead time10–15 daysFrom approved sample, not from first inquiry
Price basisFOB from $4.08China port; international freight arranged by your forwarder
Re-orderPattern locked3rd order matches the 1st

We quote FOB (China port) only — we do not pretend to be a door-to-door (DDP) shipper. You appoint your own freight forwarder; we prepare the export documents (commercial invoice, packing list, HS code, certificate of origin) so your side clears cleanly. Hand a buyer a landed-cost number two ways (FOB + their freight/duty) and you look like the supplier who has done this before.

Start the drop as a bra+legging set, not loose SKUs. Coordinated sets lift average order value and the re-order is one PO instead of two. Buyers who test a set at 100 pcs almost always come back for the short and the sports bra to complete the range — which is how a 2-style test becomes a 6-style re-order.

Private Label & Custom

The sizing discipline matters most on the sports bra: band size, cup coverage and strap width all change the support level a buyer promises her customers. We grade activewear on its own chart (not the dress chart), and our dress manufacturing and bodycon / partywear pages show the same made-to-fit approach across the catalogue.

How an Order Flows

  1. Quote — send a tech pack or reference photo; we return FOB per style/colour with fabric and MOQ.
  2. Sample — we cut one piece, run the opacity and recovery check, ship it for fit approval (10–15 days).
  3. Bulk — on approval, production slots in; same dyed lot, same pattern, locked for re-order.
  4. Ship — FOB China port, full export docs, your forwarder takes it from there.
Do not skip the sample fit on a sports bra. A legging that is half a centimetre off reads fine; a bra that is half a band size off gets returned. The sample is cheap insurance against a 300-piece mistake — and it is where the squat-proof test gets signed off in writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is China still the right place for custom yoga wear?

Yes for most brands. Guangzhou sits inside a complete activewear supply chain — warp-knit nylon-spandex fabric, dye house, cut-and-sew and finishing are all local — so a tech pack becomes a re-orderable line quickly and at a lower cost than near-shoring. The trade-off is lead time versus ocean freight, which a buyer manages with their own forwarder on FOB terms.

What MOQ and lead time work for a first drop?

100 pcs per style and colour with 10–15 day production from approved sample. It is low enough to test a style and fast enough to restock before the trend passes. Forcing a 1,000-piece minimum generally loses the buyer before the first order ships.

How do you prove a legging is squat-proof?

We run an opacity check on every new colour: stretch the fabric to 50% over a dark surface under bright light and confirm no show-through at the gusset and knee. The real control is spandex recovery rate, not just GSM — a fabric with poor recovery goes sheer at the squat regardless of weight, so we spec the shell composition in writing before bulk.

Do you do private label and custom packaging?

Yes. We support custom logo, woven or heat-transfer label, care label and polybag / mailer box, all under your brand. We grade the size run XS–3XL and work from your tech pack or build one from a reference photo and a target price.

How are shipments priced?

FOB from a China port, from $4.08. We prepare the commercial invoice, packing list, HS code and certificate of origin; your freight forwarder handles international transit and destination clearance. We do not quote DDP or door-to-door, so the landed cost stays in your control.
